Rogoznica – September 2005

Number of GLUG members on the trip: 6
Nearest airport: Split
Accomodation: Self-catering apartments. Nice and clean.

Diving:
Operated by Pongo dive centre. Diving off a small hard-boat. Most dive sites less than an hour from shore. Water temperature 23°C at surface, dropping to 17°C at 25/30 metres. Most of us dived in wetsuits, some with hoods. Others opted for drysuits. Diving was nice but not particularly memorable. Good opportunities to spot octopuses and crustaceans. No toilet on boat so those wearing wetsuits were glad about their choice of suit.

Other activities:
Much more memorable than the diving. Visits to nearby historical towns. Very good farmers market within walking distance from apartments, with good choices of fresh bread, cheeses, raw ham, fruits in season, and homemade vodkas. Restaurants with reasonable food quality and prices. One evening spent in a wine bar selling homemade wine, and snack bars nearby supplied nibbles such as calamari, whitebait and olives.

After thoughts:
It was a nice holiday and as always company was excellent. It was a charming part of Croatia we visited. Diving was not particularly special but it was a nice change after several consecutive trips to the Red Sea.
