GLUG is a Dive Club, rather than a Dive School, but because of the rising number of training enquiries, we have now appointed two committee members to help you to find the right training. Although their role is aimed at new divers, qualified divers are also welcome to ask for information about further qualifications – just email Ian & Martin: .
GLUG welcomes members from all diving organisations, although the majority of our members seem to be either PADI or BSAC qualified. We therefore aim to offer easier access to training with these two organisations, however we can also offer advice about training with other organisations such as NAUI, SSI, and SAA as well as transitioning between agencies.
As a comparison, we’ve put together this table summarising the two main training agencies:
PADI
BSAC

Diving Conditions
This is the first part of the first PADI diving course. You will be sent a manual to read through and a DVD to watch, along with some simple quizzes to help you learn the basic theory of diving.
We then spend part of the first day in the comfort of my home, talking through the theory, consolidating what you’ve already learned, getting a feel for the kit and working through any problems you may have with the theory. There is a quick test, then it’s off to the pool to put it all into practice.
All skills are demonstrated and practiced in shallow water first (water you can stand up in). Once you’re happy with those skills we then move to the deeper end of the pool and put those skills into practice in deeper water.
At the end of the second day, once the skills have been completed, you can then choose to complete the course in the UK or travel abroad and complete the course elsewhere. PADI courses are transferable and recognised throughout the world, so the choice is yours! GLUG also offers training in Malta and a few other select destinations for those not so keen on UK diving! ;-)
The cost of the course includes your course materials, diving manual, DVD, log book, Electronic Dive planner, the cost of the dives and kit hire. There are no additional costs, other than transport to and from the training sites. Car sharing can be arranged.
In GLUG we like to train in small groups so no-one feels rushed and we are able to give you all our full attention.
If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to drop me a line.
