Tenerife Trip

Posted by Anna on 26th September 2008

I have removed the Tenerife trip from the Events section due to a lack of interest. I must admit that I am quite surprised that no one contacted me about this trip, as it is one of the best short haul destinations for anyone who prefers warm water diving. It is cheap diving (GLUG members get a special rate), visibility is very good and marine life is abundant. Moreover, the location is suitable for all levels of experience and a wide range of PADI courses are available.

If anybody overlooked the previous information or any of the new members might be interested, please e-mail me by clicking on the envelope on the top of this post.

Tenerife Oct/Nov 2008

Posted by Anna on 6th July 2008

I am organising a trip to Tenerife around the end of October or beginning of November 2008.

There are two options: one week trip or long weekend trip (flying there Thursday pm, diving Friday, Saturday, Sunday and flying back Monday eve). Both options available but depending on the number of divers.

Diving of a RIB with www.tenerifedive.com diving centre well known to many Glug members. 99% guarantee to see Sting rays. Water temperature 21-23 C. Accomodation in self-catering appartments.

The trip is intended for qualified divers but if anyone wants to learn diving there, PADI courses are available on request.

If anyone is interested please leave a comment or call me on 02089264135/07857223767 as my e-mail box is out of order at the moment.

New Trip Report

Posted by Jason on 20th April 2008

We have a new trip report on the site, a two-hander by Martin and Ray, about the December trip to Tenerife. The more observant among you may have already seen the report, which has been up on the site for a month now, but I held off on posting about it till I could add the pictures.
Anyone else who is feeling similarly inspired can email their reports to me by clicking on the envelope above this post (next to my name) or by using the contacts page.

Four New Trip Reports

Posted by Jason on 28th November 2007

After a shameful delay, I have finally added three long-overdue trip reports to the site:
Daedalus, Rocky and Zabargad (Blue Seas) by Fred Wynn
Mallorca by Anna Bohach
Weymouth (August 2007) by Andy
Thank you, Fred, Anna and Andy. Not just for the reports, but also for your saintly patience.

We also have a hot-off-the-press contribution from Alan:

TENERIFE - Final call

Posted by Anna on 14th October 2007

Just imagine, it’s beginning of December. It’s wet, cold and dark and miserable looking people are pushing their way towards overcrowded underground carriages. But not you, you are in a different world. You are rolling out of bed, waken up by a glorious sunshine, trowing on shorts and t-shirt, having your breakfast on a terrace and walk into a next door diving centre.

5-10 min car journey brings you to the harbour where you kit up and board the RIB. It takes only between 10-15 min to get to one of the diving sites where spectacular rock formations, three species of rays, loggerhead turtle, barracudas, octopus, cuttlefish, trumpet fish, angel shark and friendly dive guides could make your diving trip unforgettable. Look at the pictures from our previous trips to Tenerife in the Gallery, to see how much fun we had.

So, what are you waiting for. Book your return flight to Tenerife South (aka Tenerife Sur/Reina Sofia) for the 2nd of December and return for 9th of December and e-mail me your flights confirmationto secure your place on the trip. The cheapest return flight is available right now at £80.44 with Thomsonfly at 14.45 from Gatwick, coming back at 20.20. Real bargain. But you have to hurry up. If you do it by Tuesday (16 October), your place is guaranteed. Afterwards, you have to email me first and I would have to check availability of accommodation with the diving centre, before you book your flight.

TENERIFE 2-9 December - Last reminder

Posted by Anna on 9th October 2007

There are still places available on this trip but we need to close the booking next week to ensure that suitable accommodation is available.

In order to secure your place on the trip, you have to book your flight and e-mail me a confirmation, if you haven’t already done it. Please refer to a previous post <1168> or e-mail me ASAP.

TENERIFE TRIP (Dates and arrangements)

Posted by Anna on 7th September 2007

Thanks everyone for your e-mails and comments. It was a difficult task to come up with the final date and I do apologise to all of you who this date is not suitable for but I’ve been trying to satisfy a majority, fit the AGM date and ensure that we receive the best service from the Tenerife Dive.

Therefore, we are going to Tenerife on Sunday the 2nd of December 2007.

The cost of the accommodation (shared self-catering 1 or 2 bed appartments), diving (12 dives off RIB) and transfers is about £250. Additional costs are flights, food and drinks.

In order to secure your place on the trip you have to book your return flight to Tenerife South (aka Tenerife Sur/ Reina Sofia) to arrive there at latest about 7pm on Sunday the 2nd of December, flying back in the afternoon on the 9th of December and e-mail me your flight confirmation.

If you would like to come on this trip can you please go to Events Page and register your interest there to give me an indication how many people may come. If you need any more information please feel free to e-mail me by clicking on the envelope on the top of this post or call me on one of the numbers you can find on the Events Page.

Please visit Trip Reports and Gallery on this website or go to www.tenerifedive.com for information and pictures about the diving centre, diving sites and our previous trips. There are also PADI diving courses available OW, AOW and Specialities.

I look forward to diving Tenerife again and meeting some new Glug members.

Website Stats

Posted by Neil on 7th September 2007

The GLUG website has all sorts of built-in monitoring and Statistics information, and I thought I’d just share a few interesting facts (well, I think they’re interesting anyway!)

  • The website gets on average, between 150 and 250 visitors per day. (This doesn’t include Search Engines, which visit us regularly to update their indexes)
  • The majority of visitors are based in the USA - at least, that’s where their ISPs servers are. We get almost twice as many visitors from the USA as from the UK! We’ve also had visitors from as far away as Chile, Japan, and South Korea.

Tenerife Trip

Posted by Anna on 22nd August 2007

I have contacted the Tenerife Dive and they suggested that it would be better if we can avoid the dates from 21-30 November as they have the instructor training and it will be very busy there. As we have no dates fixed yet, I suggest the 1-8 of December. However, we will most likely miss the AGM.

The cost of diving, self-catering accommodation and transfers will be about £260. Kit hire costs 3 Euros per dive. You will be responsible for booking your flight and emailing me your flight confirmation, which will secure your place on the trip.

Please e-mail me or leave a comment about the dates.

Diving Tenerife (again)

Posted by Anna on 10th August 2007

Martin J. and I have discussed a possibility of organising another diving trip to Tenerife towards the end of the year. If anyone may be interested, please leave a comment or e-mail me. We are thinking of mid November.

There are plenty of information about this location on our web site in Trip Reports and previous posts and lots of pictures in the Gallery. It may be particularly attractive for new members as there are PADI courses available, brilliant viz and easy diving with friendly stingrays and a loggerhead turtle.

Tenerife Diving

Posted by Anna on 20th April 2007

I would like to thank Fizz and Martin for their reports from both (March and November) Tenerife trips and Jason, for uploading them, inserting pictures and uploading my pictures onto the gallery. Both trips were great fun and Glug established its position as a regular customer of the Tenerife Dive, friendly and professional diving centre, actively run by owners David & Yvonne Taylor with a significant contribution from an instructor and dive guide Maxim Zigelman aka Ami. To these Glug members, who are not familliar with their website www.tenerifedive.com I would definitely recommend viewing it. It is very informative and you can see familiar faces of Glug members if you look at the news pages for March 2007, November 2006 and June 2005. If anyone is interested in diving Tenerife, please add a comment to this post or e-mail me by clicking on the envelope icon, stating when would you like to go. If there is enough interest, I will organise another trip or pass all the information to anyone who may be interested in organising it. There is quite a few pictures in our gallery from Tenerife trips to whet your appetite for diving Tenerife. * WPG2 Plugin Not Validated * Glug members at the bar Via Moana with Yvonne (middle of front row) of Tenerife Dive.

Call for Trip Reports

Posted by Jason on 25th February 2007

I am looking for volunteers to write up trip reports for a number of the trips taken during 2006. I realise that many of them are in the dim and distant past but all we need is a few short paragraphs (unless, of course, you’d like to write more). These are the trips that we still need to cover:

Southern Red Sea on Blue Seas
Littlehampton
Weymouth (August)
Plymouth

If anyone has already submitted a report for any of these (sent it in for the now defunct newsletter, for instance) then please let me know and I will try to track it down.

And, also, a gentle reminder to the following people who have already volunteered to write up reports:

Alan L - Diving for Life in St Lucia
Andy S - Pembrokeshire
Brian B - Sark
Brian B - Djibouti
Martin J - Tenerife

Tenerife 16-19 March - Last reminder

The GLUG Chair and a buddy diving in Tenerife: Nov 06

The trip is only four weeks away and I cannot wait to land at the Aeropuerto Reina Sofia before watching a sub-tropical sunset over the Oceano Atlantico. It is such a nice feeling to leave behind the cold British winter and get off the plain feeling the warmth of Canarian winter. My excitement increases as I recall familiar dive sites and friendly Stingrays but also in anticipation of diving with different people and indulging in tapas or paella for super.

I have spoken to Yvonne at www.tenerifedive.com and we agreed that we will keep the bookings open till 25th of February (unless we fill in all the places before that date). This gives more time to anyone who likes to make decisions at the last minute.

So, what are you waiting for: book your flight and e-mail me your confirmation, which will secure your place on the trip. Please see Events Page and previous posts for details.
