GLUG 2012 Membership

Membership of GLUG at just £25 is perhaps one of the cheapest dive club membership around. How GLUG achieves this is simply by not having the overheads most other dive clubs incur.

GLUG is independent of any and all dive organisations which means that we don’t have to follow anyone else’s idea of how a club should operate. GLUG, until recently, wasn’t able to offer dive training however some of our members are instructors, both BSAC and PADI which means we can now put you directly in touch with professional, gay and gay friendly instructors who can provide you with the training you need, with the support you might expect and all at competitive rates. It also means that you can learn to dive and develop your skills within a safe and welcoming environment and at the same time, enjoy being a member of a club with a welth of experiance and interests steming from it’s record 166 members (2010).

Pool time and equipment is hired by the instructors as necessary for training so the club has no pool overheads, a minimal kit inventory to maintain and our trips use charter boats so we don’t have any expensive RIBs to look after.

All in all, GLUG is a low cost club, the membership fee pays for the admin and publicity including regular try dive sessions and a presence at several Pride events each year. The primary aim is to go diving and it’s better to spend money on trips rather than maintaining kit and boats!

Here are some of the things that GLUG brings to its members:

  • Monthly meetings every month in London – Club business and plenty of social time.
  • UK Dives – we organise dives every year in Weymouth, Plymouth, and South Wales, plus other locations.
  • Overseas Dives – we arrange trips every year to warm water locations such as the Red Sea, Thailand, and the Caribbean
  • Social events, including a Summer Picnic or Barbecue, and a Christmas Meal
  • Links with other LGBT Scuba clubs worldwide
  • Diving Instruction opportunities with either PADI or BSAC.
  • Full access to all website features including online trip bookings, GLUG member profiles, full forum access.

Membership is open to all, regardless of Race, Age, Nationality, Gender, or Sexual Orientation. GLUG does not discriminate, not even against those who can’t dive (yet!) although healthy encouragement towards the wet stuff is inevitable!

Above all, GLUG provides a safe and friendly environment for LBGT divers. We welcome anyone, regardless of sexual orientation, who supports this aim.

Membership runs Jan-Dec each year.

Not a diver yet? Perhaps a try dive is what you need. Whether you join first or book for a try dive, when you do a try dive with GLUG, you get the current year’s membership free (discounted off the try dive fee if you’ve already paid!).
