Writing Posts

(Page Under Construction)

Writing a post is quite similar to writing an email.

First, make sure you’re in the of the website (click on “” or “Login” from the Main website).

Click on “Write”, and you’ll see a page, with boxes to fill in for the Title and Post content.

By default, above the Post box, you should see a row of icons - similar to what you might see in MS Word, for adding effects to your post, just as Bold, Italics, Strikethrough, etc. (If you don’t see the icons, click on the “Visual” tab, and they should appear”).

Something else you should do is choose a category for your Post. In the left-hand column, you’ll see a box titled “Categories” (click on the “+” to expand it, if necessary). Club members can choose which categories of post to receive emails about, so it’s important you choose the right one.

New: You can also add “Tags” to your post in the box underneath the Post Content. These are keywords or Key phrases that relate to your post, and unlike Categories which are fixed, Tags can be any keyword or phrase you want. For example, if you’re writing about doing a Rescue Diver course in Littlehampton, you might give “training, Rescue, Littlehampton” as the Tags.  You can also click on the “Display click tags” link to get a list of existing tags which you can click on to add to the post, or you can ask the website to suggest tags for your post.

The most popular Tags are shown on the main website - you can click on them to see all the posts relating to that Tag.

Adding Links

You can also add hyperlinks to your post - select the text which will form the link, and then click on the icon. Now enter the web address (URL) of the page you want to link to. As a general rule, if the page you’re linking to is external to the GLUG website, then choose “Open link in a new window” from the dropdown box. You can also give the link a Title (e.g. “PADI website”) - this will pop up when you hover over the link with the mouse.

To remove a link, select the link text, and click on the icon.

Adding Images.

There are three ways to add images to a post, depending on where the image is…

  • If it’s in the GLUG Gallery, then click on the icon. This will bring up a window with a list of all the gallery folders. Navigate to the folder containing the image, and then scroll down, and tick the image you want to add. Finally, scroll back up, and click on the 2nd “INSERT” box. (The first Insert box will add a link to the Gallery, rather than the individual photo). There are various other options to choose the size of the photo, alignment, etc. Unfortunately the latest website upgrade has broken this functionality - I hope to restore it soon.
  • If it’s already on a website somewhere, or on your own PC, then click on the icon after “Add media”.  This will pop up a dialogue where you can upload photos (click on the “Browse” button), or enter the URL to an image on another website.  You can upload several images in one go, and then click on “Gallery” to see them all.  The “Media Library” tab will show all the images ever uploaded to the GLUG website, and you can choose one of these if you want to.  Click the “Show” link next to the one you want to, to insert it into the post. You can choose whether to insert it as full-size, medium, or a thumbnail, and also choose whether you want it left-aligned, right-aligned, centred, etc.
