Northern

Posted by craigy_ on July 28th, 2010

Hi,
I’m on the lookout for diving buddies in the north/midlands. I’m missing being in the water daily. Midweek is better for me but weekends are dooable. Can teach/certify as well if anyone is interested.

Save Raja Ampat’s Sharks

Posted by Neil on July 22nd, 2010

Shark Savers is working with Misool Eco Resort, WildAid and other NGOs and Eco-tourism companies to convince Raja Ampat officials that it’s financially more beneficial to keep Sharks, Mantas, and Mobula Rays alive, rather than killing them.

I would like to encourage all GLUG divers to sign the online petition, asking the Raja Ampat government to prohibit all shark, manta, and mobula fishing.

Thanks in advance, and apologies if you already got this via Facebook !

Neil.

Diving Las Vegas

Posted by Neil on July 22nd, 2010

Now I know that my Raja Ampat trip isn’t for everyone – but if you’re looking for a “luxury” diving experience that costs about the same amount, but could be done in a long weekend, without all that tiresome liveaboard nonsense…

The Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas is offering “the ultimate SCUBA experience” – the opportunity to be one of the divers performing in it’s nightly “Le Rêve” show. A measly US$2000 will get you:

  • A two night stay in an “Encore Resort King” room
  • Two “Le Rêve” Indulgence tickets, including complimentary Champagne bottle service, chocolate-covered strawberries, gourmet chocolate truffles, plush seating, and video monitors showing behind-the scenes footage during the show
  • Exclusive Le Rêve backstage tour for two.
  • A one-of-a-kind SCUBA diving experience during a live Le Rêve performance (for one – taking your buddy will cost piffling extra US$1000)

For more details, see the Wynn Las Vegas website
Yes, it’s expensive – but you know you’re worth it!!

Posted by Ads on July 20th, 2010

Due to late cancellations, my Bsac diving club is looking for up to 4 divers to join their trip to Scapa this September. They are using teh same boat/cottages as Glug normally does.

Details here: http://www.bsacforum.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=24865

They are a nice bunch of people, very welcoming and well organised in their diving. You can contact them direct or via me if you are interested.

GLUG Try Dive – 17 July (2nd attempt…)

Posted by AlanL on July 18th, 2010

There’s a small album of images of the ‘try-divers’ in the pool yesterday on my FB page. This is the link: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2074164&id=1183090697&l=eeb57fe880GLUG Try Dive

It appears to work now; I don’t know what I did that was different – it was probably a FB issue..!

The Gallery

Posted by Mark on July 12th, 2010

Just a note before anyone panics – I’ve taken the gallery offline while I investigate the issues with the site.

Please don’t upload anything for the time being and don’t worry the old images haven’t been lost!

Images from Komodo and Philippines

Posted by AlanL on July 8th, 2010

I’ve uploaded a new gallery of images from a trip I made to the Komodo National Park a few weeks ago. You can see it on my website at www.alanlarsen.co.uk. The Komodo National Park is a World Heritage Site and in the ‘Coral Triangle’, the most biodiverse area of the oceans. The park and the area around it boast some exhilarating diving: from gentle ‘muck diving’ with strange critters on black sands – to manta rays and sharks in ripping currents!

I’ve also added more images to the previous gallery from the Philippines – a trip I did over Xmas/New Year. Still in the ‘Coral Triangle’  but further north, the diving is equally impressive (and is the same area that Neil led a GLUG trip to in March).

Enjoy!

Alan

I still have 2 places left on this weekend.  Suitable for BSAC Sports/PADI Advanced upwards who have some UK diving experience.  Semi-drys adequate.  It’s a lovely big boat with a lift – Tango.  Accommodation already arranged.  Please let me know asap if you’re interested.
