Diving in Tenerife
I’m facilitating a GLUG trip to Tenerife from Wednesday 22 April 2009 to Tuesday 28 April 2009.
Tenerife is a great place for new divers to qualify or for qualified divers to polish up skills.
This trip will be perfect for new members wanting to qualify to PADI OW or even progress to PADI ADV status.
I have alrady checked with Yvonne & David who run the dive centre where we will be diving and have been quoted the following prices:
Currently they have “frozen” their euro to sterling exchange rates at 1:30 to the pound for diving. This presents very good value.
PADI OW Referral = 195 euro, this includes 4 open water dives, equipment hire, diver insurance and PADI certification.
PADI ADV course = 265 euro which includes the 5 training dives, the adventures in diving manual, necessary equipment hire and the final certification.
They are happy to post out the manual to those completing the course which means you can complete the knowledge reviews in the comfort of you own home. The cost of posting the manual is 9 Euro.
For qualified divers, to keep things simple they will only charge 25 Euro per dive regardless how many people are in the group.
If you need to hire equipment, this is charged at 5 euro per dive for all equipment required.
Do have a look at their website: www.tenerifedive.com and at the trip reports section on the GLUG website.
New members who recently attended the “try dive” weekend should contact Ian F who will be arranging the theory & pool part of the PADI OW course which will enable you to come along on this trip.
Accommodation
We will be accommodated at Parque Don Jose. Tenerifedive will arrange this. Please note that standard exchange rates apply to this and prices are quoted in sterling.
This is a large self catering time share complex right next to the Dive Centre.
We will have a choice of 1 bedroom apartments sleeping 3 persons at £220 for the week and 2 bedroom apartments sleeping 4 persons at £280 for the week.
We can organise this in more detail when we know how many are coming along but keep in mind that the 2 bedroom apartments usually have one bedroom with a double bed. in due course I will contact those going to pay for the accommodation upfront.
Weather
Tenerife has a seasonal maximum temperature of 24 degrees in April which should be very pleasant. I have been before in November and December when the daytime maximum was around 21 degrees which was also enjoyable.
Social
We will be staying in a rather small fishing village called Las Galletas. There is not much nightlife but we tend to go out for dinner together in the evening and there are some good restaurants within walking distance of our accommodation. In past trips we have all chosen to get some sleep as the diving can be exhausting, especially for new divers.
We usually do a self catering breakfast and for lunch stop off at a beach side cafe between dives.
As we are flying back on Tuesday 28 April we will not be able to dive on Monday 27 April. This may allow for a night on the town depending on how we feel…
Flights
I have booked to fly with easyjet because it suits me to fly from Gatwick. EZY 8703 on 22 Apr and returning on EZY 8704 on 28 April.
Tenerifedive will collect us from TFS airport for a fee. Once again, if we know how many are coming along we can arrange this as it may be cheaper to hire a car.
There are numerous flights available from various London, or UK airports.
If you want to come along, then book your flights and e-mail me your flight confirmation. I will then contact Yvonne to arrange accommodation.
The deadline to reply to is Monday 23 March 2009.
