GLUG Picnic - any more votes?

Posted by Neil on 26th June 2007

With only 8 votes for the winning location so far, it’s going to be a small picnic!   Come on - I know there are more than 18 members in and around London - lets have your votes!  Voting will close on Monday 2nd July, so that we have a decision for July’s club meeting, so if you haven’t voted yet, please do so.

New Trip Report

Posted by Jason on 25th June 2007

Charlie Stewart has been kind enough to write-up a report from his most recent trip to the Red Sea. Covering the Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone, with threshers, hammerheads and cross-dressing Germans thrown in for good measure, it’s enough to make any diver green with envy. You can read it for yourself here.

And, now that diving season has begun in earnest, if anyone else feels similarly inspired to contribute pictures or trip reports then please email them to me so I can add them to the site. Your fifteen minutes of fame starts now…

2 places for Pembrokeshire, 6-8 July

Posted by Corinne on 23rd June 2007

I’ve now got two spaces available for Pembrokeshire, 6-8 July (the Friday is optional). Could take 1 experienced + 1 not so experienced, but not 2 inexperienced. Accommodation available. It’s a great venue and everyone usually enjoys themselves immensely. Please contact me for details.

Picnic Venue Poll (updated)

Posted by Neil on 14th June 2007

GLUG will be holding an end-of-summer Picnic on Sunday 2nd September somewhere in London. All are welcome, but first we need to decide where to have it!

I’ve set up a Poll on the website (in the top right corner), so if you’re planning on coming along, then please vote for your preference(s). You can vote for up to 3 venues, but you can only vote once!

More information on the venues can be found by clicking on their names.

UPDATE: I realised that I’d forgotten to restrict the voting to GLUG members only. I’ve deleted all the non-member votes, so if you voted without logging into the website, please could you go back and vote again.

At the time of writing, only Myself, Anna, Jason, and Alesh had voted.

Pride Events

Posted by Neil on 11th June 2007

At the risk of pre-empting Kirk’s forthcoming post, I’ve set up two events on the Events Page for London Pride and Brighton Pride.

Kirk will no doubt be looking for volunteers to help out on the GLUG stand, so if you can spare a couple of hours on either date, please click on the appropriate tick to register your interest. (You need to be logged in first!)

GLUG Picnic Venue

Posted by Neil on 11th June 2007

At the last GLUG meeting, I agreed to put a poll on the website, to find out where members would prefer to have the GLUG end-of-summer Picnic on September 2nd.

Before I do so, I thought I’d ask whether anyone would like to put forward any locations in addition to those listed below:

  1. Greenwich park
  2. St James Park
  3. Green Park
  4. Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens
  5. Regent’s Park
  6. Battersea Park
  7. Clapham Common
  8. Bushey Park

If you’ve any further suggestions, please leave a comment below this post, before Friday 15th June.

MALPELO AND COCOS TRIP 2008

Posted by in2theblue on 9th June 2007

http://www.glug.co.uk/archives/739

At the end of June I have to hand back the remaining 5 places, on this trip, to Scubascuba as I haven’t filled them. They have 4 people who will gladly travel and dive with the 13 other lovely GLUGies booked on board but, in a last ditch effort to fill the boat with GLUG members, check out the link and get back to me should you have any questions. I know there was at least one person at Tuesday night’s social who was interested but I unfortunately I did not get a chance to talk to them and would kindly ask that they get in touch with me or if someone knows this person please prompt him. Many thanks in anticipation.

I also may be planning an Autumn Red Sea Trip-watch this space

Best wishes

Charlie

Website back online

Posted by Neil on 8th June 2007

Well, my attempt to upgrade the website was a complete disaster! Apologies that it was offline for so long.

Not quite sure what went wrong/why it didn’t work, but it was lucky I took a backup before I started!

I will be trying again in a few days time.

Planned Website Maintenance

Posted by Neil on 6th June 2007

Wordpress have released a new version of the software which runs our website.

I’ll be upgrading our website sometime within the next few days, as time allows. During this time, there may be periods when the website is offline, and you’ll just see a message asking you to come back later.

Apologies for the inconvenience, but the new release has some security fixes, plus some extra features, so it’s a good idea to upgrade.
