Website Postings and Member’s names
Posted by Neil on 22nd December 2006
When Posting items to the GLUG website, please bear in mind that not all of our members are necessarily “out” to everyone.
I’ve had an email recently from someone who’s looking for a new job, and since prospective employers often Google people’s names nowadays, they don’t really want GLUG to come up at the top of the list, just because someone’s mentioned them in a post!
So, if your post includes members’ full names, then you should make sure that those members are happy for their names to be seen publicly on the GLUG website. If in any doubt then please mark your post as “members only” (you’ll find this option under “Post Status” on the right hand side of the “Write Post” page).
I know that the majority of members don’t care who knows they’re gay, but it’s important that we respect those that do.
Neil.
