Names on Posts

Posted by Neil on 24th August 2006

Hi everyone,

I’ve been asked to point out to you all that by default, any posts that you make to this website will be displayed with your full name at the top of the post.  If you don’t want your full name displayed, then there’s a simple way to prevent it:  Go into the members area, and on your Profile page you’ll see a drop-down list titled “Display Name publicly as:” - for example, you can choose to display just your first name.  If none of the options in the list are suitable, then change your “nickname”, and save your profile. You’ll then find that you can choose that nickname from the drop-down list.

Cocos and Malpelo Islands 2008

Posted by in2theblue on 23rd August 2006

Schooling HammerheadsHi Guys and Girls.

For those of you who have watched the numerous documentaries on these Islands, the very names alone, conjure up the most exciting images of sharks especially schooling Hammerheads. Situated some 36 hours off Costa Rica these islands offer us some of the most adventurous shark diving in the world. With this in mind, I would like to see how much interest there would be in this trip. I invite you to do your own research on these amazing dive sites as well as looking at www.underseahunter.com. The very basics, for now, are: the trip will be planned for March/April 2008, for 18 people, travelling via Madrid to Costa Rica and using The Undersea Hunter fleet. Because we are going so far and paying so much, I have been advised that its best to do Malpelo and The Cocos rather than just The Cocos and allow two weeks for our entire trip. And now for the painful bit-the trip will cost something in the region of £3500. By organising for 2008, this may help you to save towards such expense. There are only a limited amount of vessels which visit these dive sites and they get booked up way in advance-2007 trips are all full! Therefore, I would need to hear from all of those, who are interested, as soon as possible, othewrwise, I will open it up to The US and French divers, we met in Hondurous, who expressed interest then. This is going to be the most amazing dive holiday!

Thats it in a very small nutshell folks and, as requested, can you please register your interest as soon as possible, below this post.

Best wishes

Charlie Stewart

Broken link in previous post

Posted by Neil on 14th August 2006

The previous post about the Ocean Optics talk contained a broken link to the PDF file.  This has now been corrected, but if you tried clicking from the email, you would have got a “Page not found” error.  The correct link is here.

Any more for a Photography trip?

Posted by Neil on 14th August 2006

I’ve had only a limited response to my previous post about an Underwater Photography trip for next year.

I know that there are virtually no details at all at present, but I really just want to get a feel for whether we could fill this sort of trip from within the club or not - not a definite committment!

With only 4 responses so far, it looks like the answer’s going to be no, so if it is something that you might be interested in, please leave a comment, either below, or on my previous post. (You will need to Log in to the website before you can leave a comment - If you can’t log in, send me an email via the Contact Form).

Posted by Corinne on 10th August 2006

I’ve got a couple of spaces on Autumn Dream on 2-3 September. This is not a GLUG trip - it’s my local BSAC club, but they regularly mix in with GLUG and are house-trained. Two GLUG members are already on the trip in addition to myself. Accommodation, diving and meals amount to £123. Contact me asap if interested.

Brighton Pride 2006 a Success!

Posted by Neil on 7th August 2006

A big thank you to those GLUG members who came along to help out on our stall at Brighton Pride on Saturday. It was our most successful Pride ever, in terms of new members on the day - we signed up six new members. Of course, there may well be others who took away our leaflets and will subsequently sign up, or tell their friends about us as well !
