The Gallery is back!

Posted by Neil on 27th June 2006

UDFL0025.jpg

Yes, it’s taken a long time, and it’s still not complete, but the GLUG Gallery is back online.

In the left column on the GLUG website, you’ll see there is now a “Random Image”. This is picked at random from the GLUG gallery. Click on the photo, and you’ll be taken to the Gallery.

There’s no longer any need for seperate Gallery logins - your main GLUG website login will log you into the Gallery as well, and all GLUG members can now upload photos whenever they want to.

I’ll be adding a Gallery Link at the top of the page (where the other links are) in the near future.

If you have any questions about how to upload photos, email me, and I’ll do my best to answer them.

Volunteers needed for London Pride Stall

Posted by Neil on 27th June 2006

100 0001

Kirk tells me that so far he has only two volunteers for the GLUG stall at London Pride in Trafalgar Square on Saturday.

In a club where over half our members live in or around London, we really should be able to do better than this, especially in a year when London is hosting EuroPride. We’re not asking you to give up your whole day - even just an hour or so would help. Kirk and I have spent a lot of time preparing for this event - producing a new newsletter, getting leaflets printed, buying new T-shirts, etc., etc. It’s very disappointing when the rest of the club are too apathetic to show us some support.

Please, if you can spare even half an hour of your time on Saturday afternoon, contact Kirk and let him know. You can send him an email by logging into the site and clicking on the envelope at the top of his previous post, or by going to the “Contact Us” page, and selecting “The GLUG Newsletter” from the drop-down list.

Sark, Channel Islands Weekend - 23/24 September

Posted by fredwynn on 26th June 2006

Le Creux Harbour

Update: The same trip is being organised for May 26th-28th 2007
Hi all
Sark is one of the smallest of the Channel Islands. A truly fantastic experience to visit an island where there are no cars and the only means of transport is your bicycle. Don’t worry, our skipper will transport your diving equipment on his tractor to and from Creux Harbour to our accommodation.

Please visit:
http://www.sarkci.com/
and
http://www.visitguernsey.com/

Our skipper will arrange boat transfer to/from Guernsey harbour to Sark, leaving Guernsey on Friday evening and returning on Sunday – time to be arranged.

Accommodation will be for two nights at Le Grand Fort, a self catering cottage situated on the north coast of Sark – a mere 10 minutes cycle to the harbour. Ray, my dive buddy, if we ask him nicely, will do one of his speciality meals one evening in the farmhouse.

Two dives per day – with dive sites to be arranged. You will certainly be impressed with the excellent viz which is as good as the Mediterranean.

If you wish to make a long weekend in Guernsey, I can provide you with details of accommodation here in Guernsey.

Please note – adequate diving insurance is obligatory and I suggest that you have sufficient travel insurance for this event.

Cost per diver - approx GBP128 subject to 12 divers which can be broken down as follows:

2 dives per day GBP30 x 2 days = GBP60
Transfer to/from Guernsey Sark= GBP18
B&B accommodation x 2 night = GBP50

A deposit of GBP75 will be required with a refund only being made if the trip does not go ahead or if another diver can fill your place. Please send your cheque together with the attached booking form.

If you have any questions - just let me know and I will do my best to answer. (Log in, then click on the envelope at the top of the post to send me an email).

GLUG Automailer

Posted by Neil on 18th June 2006

As you’ve no doubt noticed, the GLUG website is sending emails again, whenever a new item is posted to the website.

The emails have been improved since their last incarnation - they now send the complete post within the email, in HTML (for the computer-illiterate, that’s what makes the email look pretty).

You may not want to be emailed for every post, and, as before, you can choose which post categories you want to be emailed about.

(Note to new members: each item posted to the website has a number of categories associated with it - chosen by the person who posted it).

To change your email subscription, please go to your Profile page - you’ll see the categories listed at the bottom of the page. Just remove the ticks for the categories you’re not interested in. Note: you cannot remove the tick for “Club Announcements”.

While you’re there, please click on “Your extended profile“, and check that your details are shown correctly.

Watch this space for details of the new Events Page and Contact Form - coming soon!

Neil.

GLUG T-shirts - new design!

Posted by Neil on 7th June 2006

GLUG T-shirt Logo

Many people have expressed a preference for a T-shirt without Gay & Lesbian Wording, and so at Tuesday’s meeting, this design (shown right) was agreed on. (You can click on the logo to see a bigger version)

If you would like a T-shirt or Sweatshirt with this design embroidered on the breast, please send an email to tshirts@glug.co.uk giving your preferred style, colour, and size from the choices below (NB:sizes above XL cost 50p extra)

  • Polo Shirt £13.00
Jerzees Micro Pique 100% Cotton Polo shirt. Available in 10 colours and 8 sizes. Click here for full details.
  • T-shirt £8.50
Jerzees Silver Label T-shirt. Available in 31 colours and up to 8 sizes (depending on the colour). Click here for full details
  • Vest £8.50
Jerzees Mens Sports back Vest. Available in 5 colours and 5 sizes. Click here for full details

You’ll notice that there are many more garment styles available on the website. If there’s something specific you’d like (e.g. a Sweatshirt), give me the product code for it, and I’ll find out the cost - but I don’t want to bombard them with enquiries, so if you’re happy with the ones I’ve chosen, please stick to them.

We’re Back!!

Posted by Neil on 5th June 2006

Yes, after a few days frantic reprogramming, the GLUG website is back up and running. It’s been updated to the latest version of the weblog software, which should mean that it’s secure once again.

It currently has a different look and feel to the old site - if you prefer it, let me know (you can comment below), but I’m working on returning the site to a similar look to the old one - this will be a work in progress over the next few weeks.

Likewise, you’ll find that certain areas of the site don’t yet work as they should. There’s a lot of work still to be done. Here’s my current “to do” list (not prioritised!):
