More website problems

Posted by Neil on 24th January 2006

It seems a configuration file got screwed up during the recent website outage, which meant that the links in the emails which are sent out didn’t work.

Hopefully this should now be working again. I’ve also added a note to the email which points out that even if the link within the email doesn’t work, you can always go directly to the GLUG homepage to read the post. (looks like that didn’t work!)

SHORE BASED SOUTHERN RED SEA DIVING

Posted by in2theblue on 24th January 2006

DEPARTING THURSDAY 31ST AUGUST

For all you Red Sea fanatics, I will be posting another Oonasdivers discounted trip, this time to The Red Sea Safari Shagra Eco Village. For those of you, who read my entry in the news letter, I was really impressed with the set up at Shagra. As well as Shagra’s house reefs, the amazing Elphinestone, Abu Dabbab, Nakari and Shaab el Gadeer reefs are easily accessed from Shagra. Shaab Samadi ( Dolphin House Reef) - great for budding photographers - offers a days hard boat diving, just an hour south of Shagra.

We are being offered the best accomodation, in the very comfortable Madyafa Guest Houses ( en-suite), flights and transfers ( less than an hour from the airport) all meals, soft drinks , teas and coffees ( with afternoon cake) and unlimited diving for £671.00. If we get 12 people or more, then a futher discount will be available.

Check out Oonasdivers website for further information and photographs and, if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me.

Ongoing Webserver Problems

Posted by Neil on 15th January 2006

If you tried to access the GLUG website on Friday or Saturday, and found that you couldn’t, the reason was that the Server had died. Our Web Hosting provider has had problems replacing the server, and currently they are running with a lower-specification machine, which is quite badly overloaded.

The other problem is that since the server was replaced, many of the scripts which generate the GLUG webpages aren’t working properly. I’ve raised this with them, and modified the script for the home page to work around the problem, but there are around 40 script files which have the same problem, so you’ll find that many of the pages don’t currently work.

If they haven’t cured the problem within 24 hours, I’ll start modifying all the others, but it’s a mammoth task, so please bear with me.

The “Contact Us” page still works correctly, so if there’s something you need to know, please fill in the form, and we’ll respond as soon as possible.

Neil.

UPDATE |(16th Jan):
The Scripts appear to be working properly again now, but the website may still be sluggish. If you find any pages don’t work, please email me (click on the envelope at the top of this post, if there is one, or use the “Contact Us” page).

Just in case anyone’s forgotten, this is a quick reminder that tonight’s meeting, and future meetings will be at the Konditor and Cook, at the Curzon Cinema in Shaftesbury Avenue.

You can find a map here, or use the TFL website to plan your journey. Nearest Tubes are Leicester Square (walk up Charing Cross Road, then turn left down Shaftesbury Ave), or Picadilly Circus (walk up Shaftesbury Avenue). Buses 14, 19, and 38 stop on Shaftesbury Avenue.

See you there!

Gay-friendly diving clubs

Posted by debbiep on 4th January 2006

We regularly get queries from people wanting to learn to dive in a gay-friendly club and I’d like to build up a better list than we have already so that we can respond quickly.

If you know of any clubs, anywhere in the country, that you know to be gay-friendly, could you please let me know. BSAC, PADI and anything between all welcome.

Thanks for your help.
