Bonaire trip - April 2005

Posted by Stephanie Butcher on 30th August 2004

Our friends from Lambda Divers (a Gay Dive club in Canada), have invited GLUG members to join them on a trip to Bonaire from 16th-23rd April 2005.

They’re staying at Capt Dons Habitat - home of several previous Diving For Life gay scuba jamborees, and also “the home of 24/7 diving freedom” (you can dive at 4am, if you really want to!).

Clickable author links

Posted by Neil on 30th August 2004

Hi everyone… another minor change to the website:

If you’re logged in to the website, you’ll notice that the author name of each post is now clickable (where it says “Posted by: fred”, for example) - if you click on the author name, it will open your email client to send the author an email.

If you’re not logged in, the the author name is not clickable - this prevents spammers from obtaining email addresses from our web pages, however, everyone should be aware that posting an item on the website will make your email address available to other GLUG members. If this causes anyone a problem, please email me (by clicking on my name at the top of this post!).

This also means that you don’t have to supply your email address within the post, if you do want people to contact you.

Gay Guesthouse in Weymouth

Posted by Neil on 30th August 2004

I received an email today from Greenwood Guest House in Weymouth. It’s a lesbian-owned guesthouse - not exclusively gay, but obviously gay-friendly. Might be worth checking out for next year.

South Africa trip - details on Events Page

Posted by Neil on 12th August 2004

Great White Shark

I’ve finally got around to posting the sample itineraries that Lisa & Karen sent me for the South Africa trips. These are on the GLUG Events Page.
There’s a choice of 2 trips - the one in Autumn 2005 is for 5 days Cage Diving with Great Whites followed by 5 days at the Protea Banks (more sharks!), while the one in Spring 2006 is for 7 days diving in Mozambique and 3 days at the Protea Banks.

I suspect it’s unlikely that we will get enough interest to run both trips, but either trip can be tailor-made by Scuba 2000 to our requirements, so if there are changes you’d like to see, please leave a comment below.

If you’re a GLUG member, then login to the site, and you’ll be able to download sample itineraries for both trips (same file for both trips), and register your interest for either trip.

Webmaster on Holiday

Posted by Neil on 10th August 2004

Please note that the GLUG Webmaster (Neil) is away on holiday from August 13th until August 24th.

Any problems with the website will be dealt with on his return. In the meantime, the “Contact Us” button should still work - your email will be read by one of the other GLUG committee members.

Brighton Pride

Posted by Neil on 8th August 2004

A big thank you to Ian, Les, Alan, Kirk, Brian, and Virinia, who all helped out with running the GLUG stall at Brighton Pride yesterday - it meant that Ignacio and I actually got to have a look around ourselves, and were able to get some lunch!

There was plenty of interest in the stall: We signed up two new members there and then, and there were plenty more people who stopped to chat and find out more, and took leaflets away.

It was a scorching hot day, and I thoroughly enjoyed it (of course, it had nothing to do with the thousands of barely-clothed hunks wandering around!!). Ignacio and I went down to St James Street in the evening, but after being on our feet all day, we decided to give the clubs a miss!

Thanks again to all those who came along and helped, and also to the others who popped by to say hello!

Open Water Movie

Posted by Neil on 4th August 2004

Keep an eye out for this film. It opens in the US on August 6th, and will show here in the UK later in the year. The following review is from undercurrent online:
Based on a true story of two divers left behind in Australia who were never found, the characters drift aimlessly — though it’s a gut-wrenching, emotional rollercoaster — while they wait to be rescued.

GLUG Summer BBQ

Posted by webmaster on 2nd August 2004

The summer barbecue yesterday was a great success. Once again Gerhard did us proud, with so much food that we couldn’t eat it all!
We had chicken skewers, salmon fillets, sardines, baked butternut squash, potatoes with crab, cumberland sausage, squid, homemade burgers, as well as plenty of salads, roast vegetables, and desserts to die for!

The weather was very kind to us, with one of the hottest days of the year so far, and the 30 or so people crammed into Gerhard’s garden certainly enjoyed themselves.
