Yes, after a few days frantic reprogramming, the GLUG website is back up and running. It’s been updated to the latest version of the weblog software, which should mean that it’s secure once again.

It currently has a different look and feel to the old site - if you prefer it, let me know (you can comment below), but I’m working on returning the site to a similar look to the old one - this will be a work in progress over the next few weeks.

Likewise, you’ll find that certain areas of the site don’t yet work as they should. There’s a lot of work still to be done. Here’s my current “to do” list (not prioritised!):

1. Change the look of the site, to return to the familiar format we’re used to (unless everyone likes the new look!)
2. Bring back the GLUG Gallery - with improvements. For example, no need to log into the Gallery pages seperately - once you’ve logged into the main website, you’ll be able to view and upload photos in the Gallery.
3. Set up the Events Page. Initially this will probably be a static page, with basic information, but I plan to change this back to how it was before, plus some improvements, to make it easier to register for events, and for event organisers to publish extra pages about events.
4. Complete the Links page - not quite sure how this will eventually look, but I plan to make it easier for me (and possibly others) to update.
5. Add a “Contacts Page”, and a “Contact Form“.
6. Regenerate categories for the old posts - you’ll notice that all the old posts are listed as “Uncategorized”. This will slowly change.
7. Implement a Subscriber email facility - similar to how it used to be, where each club member can choose to receive notification of new posts for specified categories. This will also be improved, with emails containing the post itself, rather than just a link to the website. NB: currently, you will not receive any emails when the site is updated, so please check back regularly!
8. …and anything else I can think of. If you have any suggestions, please comment below

Thanks to everyone for bearing with me for the last week or so. Fingers crossed that the changes will prevent us getting hacked in future.

GLUG members usernames and passwords should still work with the new site, but if you log in (link on the left), you’ll notice a few changes. Ignore the horrendously complicated “Dashboard” for the moment - it’s aimed at geeks, and will be replaced.

If you write a post, you’ll notice that putting bold, italics, pictures, etc. is now a lot more user-friendly.
