2009 Charitable Donation

Posted by Mark on December 19th, 2009

As those who attended the AGM last week will already know, it was decided that GLUG would make a £250 charitable donation this year.

I should point out (this was raised at the AGM) that this is entirely separate from DFL (Diving for Life), this is GLUG giving away surplus cash from 2009 to a charity.

What we need now is a charity, and that’s where you come in. Firstly we need nominations for charities, then we’ll need votes. It was decided at the AGM that all nominations must be linked to diving and/or homosexuality though unlike DFL  the gay bit isn’t limited to gay health.

The nominations are needed ASAP so there can be a poll on the site in time for the result to be announced at the January meeting. This means people kind of need to act NOW and not leave it until tomorrow!

Please leave a comment on this post or email me direct ()  with you nomination(s) and once they’ve been shortlisted I’ll set up the poll for voting.

Cheers

Mark

Considering the fact that some of the world’s best diving takes place in countries where gay rights aren’t protected, how about supporting the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission?

My vote would be for the Marine Conservation Society. If you’ve seen “The End of The Line“, you’ll understand why.

Both of those are good. For a charity that provides practical assistance I suggest the Albert Kennedy Trust – it finds housing for young LGBT homeless young people. Its doing good work and as its a smallish organsitaion our donation will really mean something to them.
