New Trips System
Posted by Mark on November 19th, 2009
The new trips system is now ‘live’: www.glug.co.uk/trips-page (you do need to make sure that you are logged in otherwise you will only get the list!)
Hint: Click the green ‘play’ button to interact with a trip and the ‘eject’ symbol to expand and collapse the trip details within the list.
Unfortunately this isn’t be best timing possible because this new feature is not finished and certainly not bug free however… it has to go live sometime and one sure way to find the bugs is to let people loose with it!
Before we go too far, this is a limited trial/test so if you are a trip organiser, for now please do not try to load your trips onto this new system – I’ll tell you when you can do so. The old Events system will remain live for now though I hope to not drag out the switch over too long.
I’m trialling the 2010 UK dive trips which Corinne organises on the new system first. These are now live and bookings are open. The traditional forms are avilable freely as .doc and pdf files from within the system. For the moment payment is via cheque (post or at the AGM etc) but that hopefully will be addressed shortly.
I would ask that people do register an interest or book using the new system and complete the online form. I am aware that the online booking forms are not operating perfectly and although your entries will be stored in the database, the trip organiser won’t at present have access to them – to be addressed soon.
Much of the styling is also yet to be finalised so if the colour scheme leaves you reaching for your sun glasses don’t panic!
If (or rather when) it all goes horribly wrong please do drop me an email with details of what happened (if there’s an error message copy and paste it!), what you were trying to do and which browser you were using – that way I’ll have a chance of fixing the problem.
It should ‘work’ with most browsers however you never know and for now this will remain off the iPhone themed plugin so normal safari browsing only please!
You may see a test trip (farily obviously not real) please ignore this as it’s there for my testing purposes and will appear/disappear randomly.
Now, ideally I’d be doing this at a time when I could dedicate plenty of time to fixing bugs, finishing off features and bolting on new stuff… however that’s not to be. So, while I will do me best to address any issues raised ASAP, the response times may be significantly worse than perhaps some have been use to of late.
Hopefully though you’ll all like this new feature as it is and in time I hope it will look and feel a lot more polished than it currently is… but everything has to start somewhere!
Cheers
Mark

Thanks for all the hard work you have put into this. It looks great and should really help us in the efficient running of our trips.
