Pride London

Ignacio and I had a pretty good day at the London Pride Rally in trafalgar square on Saturday. We had to arrive by 11am, despite the rally not starting until 2.30pm, but at least it gave us a chance to look around the other stalls, and grab a few freebies!
We also discovered, having set up the stall, and put out the leaflets, that we’d forgotten to put the web address on them! It was on the early drafts, but somehow got missed off the copy that went to the printers - my fault as much as anyones, since I proof-read it! So we spent a large part of the afternoon frantically scribbling the web address onto the leaflets. I’ve ordered some labels that we can stick on in time for the Brighton & Cardiff Prides.
The weather was reasonably kind - there was a huge downpour during the Parade, and a couple of little showers, but we had long spells of sunshine too. We had loads of interest in the GLUG stall, and handed out over 250 leaflets. It was disappointing that only 2 GLUG members turned up to support us - you’d have thought that with over 60 members living in and around London, a few more might have made the effort!
Highlights of the day:
- A large, tattooed, shirtless Muscle Mary, with two Chihuahuas who sported little “Superdog” capes
- The group of evangelistic bigots who congregated at a corner of the square during the Parade, with placards denouncing us all as sinners, who were surrounded by a group of Lesbian drummers, who succeeded in drowning them out, and eventually chasing them off up the street!
