Lack of Volunteers for Brighton Pride

Posted by Neil on July 31st, 2008

Allan tells me that there have been no volunteers to run the GLUG stall at Brighton Pride, other than himself and Brian Broadbridge.

We have over 80 members, around 60 of whom live in London & the South East. Are we really so apathetic that we can’t find half a dozen people to help out for an hour or so each?

I’m sure, going by previous years, that there will be at least half a dozen other members who go to Brighton Pride… but of course, they’ll be too busy enjoying themselves to even put in half an hour giving out GLUG leaflets.

Sometimes I wonder why us Committee members even bother to run the club. :-(

OK, Rant over.

If you can help out on Saturday, even for just half an hour, please email Brian or Allan.

Neil.

    Hi Neil,
I’m afraid that I won’t be able to help out on the stall this year (or go to Brighton Pride at all, for that matter). I’ve just have a (thankfully, very minor) surgical procedure and my doctor has instructed me to take it easy till my stitches come out…
I should say though, if anyone is in two minds whether to go, that I had a fantastic time last year, both on the stall and partying afterward.

    Hi Neil
Dont know when you last communicated with Caroline but I volunteered well over a week ago and I am on the stall between 3&4. Brian was also copied in on this email. Looks like a break down in communication.
I will try and get to the stall earlier though as I have promo stuff for Sept’s Red Sea trip as well as a photo book from The Cocos trip.
I hope this helps somewhat but can understand your frustration with lack off volunteers.
Regards and see you on Sat. Are we going to need our wet suits-forecast looking a bit suspect?

Thanks Charlie - as you say, must be a breakdown in Communication - Allan obviously wasn’t aware of this.

BBC Website currently forecasts cloudy but dry, so hopefully you can leave your wetsuit at home :-)

Not sure if I’ll see you on Saturday. Ignacio and I weren’t planning on going down this year (having run the stall for most of the day the previous 3 years)… but it looks like we may have to if there are no other volunteers. :-(

    Neil,

In response to your rant - I volunteered as requested by Caroline with contact details for the day.

As a member can I please ask that our committee members ‘running the club’ at least talk to each other once in a while.

My response rant over. I hope everyone has a great day!!!

It appears I was misinformed! Point taken, Terry. I’ve emailed Brian, Allan, and Caroline, asking that if they have a list of who’s supposed to be there at what time, then they post it here.

Nice to find that the club’s NOT as apathetic as I thought. :-)

Well I hope this has all been sorted out now. I am unable to attend due to family commitments and havent been online since the posting of this.

I’m stumped to see the conversations that have gone on but please can we ensure that we have double checked our information before ‘ranting’ online to the whole club! Also nobody is expected to attend the stall to rescue the club, the stall can run as long on the day as we have people-power to do so.

Thanks to everyone helping out this year, both covering the stall and looking after the background organisation and hope you all have a great time!

    Regards

    Chris
