Trip to Marine Reserve Lundy
Posted by fiona white on December 2nd, 2007
I would like to organise a trip to Lundy in August or September 2008 but very quickly need to gauge an idea of whether we would be able to fill the boat (10 divers). If you are interested in diving this fantastic marine reserve off the North Devon coast please can you either e-mail me or leave a comment below.
This trip would be suitable for most levels of diving qualification and for all those keen to dive with seals and basking sharks! August is the best time of year to see basking sharks there.
Diving would take place Friday to Sunday, staying at the New Inn in Clovelly. Diving costs £40 per diver per day (assuming 10 divers), bed and breakfast is £25 per person per night. Click here for more information

I stayed in one of the properties on Lundy with some friends many years ago, although I didn’t dive - but I saw plenty of seals, and the water looked *very* clear.

Hi Fiona
Now that you and Sonja have been to The Red Sea, I think its about time to join up on one of your trips!! As I have never dived the UK waters before, apart from my rescue course, in Weymouth, I think it is about time, and was wondering if I would get away with a wet suit as opposed to a dry?
I have stayed on Lundy before and, like Neil, saw loads of seals and bird life-its fantastic with a variety of quirky places to stay!
Look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes for now
Charlie

Hi Fiona,
I’d also be interested in coming along, dependent on the exact dates and the length of the trip (and, also, on whether or not I’d be able to get by in a semi-dry).
I’ll discuss it with you, and get more details, at the January meeting.

Hello,
I’d like to go as well. Please let us know of possible dates.

By August the water temperature should be up around 18 degrees. Personally I think this is warm enough for a 7mm semi-dry, however some club members have dived quite happily in a thick wet suit at this time of year in the UK (hardy souls!) I leave it up to you Charlie and Jason.

Thanks to everyone who has so far expressed interest. As August is rather swamped with dive trips already, and the last weekend in August had already been booked up by another club, I have made a provisional booking for Friday 5th - Sunday 7th September. I have provisionally booked enough rooms for 10 divers from the Thursday night. Diving should finish around 3:30pm on Sunday giving us just enough time to drive home that night. I will be sending lovely booking forms to all of you who have replied shortly.
Obviously, there is still space for anyone who has not responded to me yet. First come, first served.

Hi Fi
Have you still got any places on your trip? I’ve realised that I ticked on the Events Page but actually haven’t e-mailed you re: the trip.
Cheers
