Birmingham NEC Dive show trip Sat 13th October 07.

Just another reminder that anyone wishing to come along, even for just the show (and wishes prior discounted tickets for the group meet on the 13th) can they now register their interest on the Events Page or email me as the event is drawing near and is now only a month away.
Those wishing to go for just the day, looking for company on the train or just seeking/offering shared transport, then use the comments forum.
A good opportunity to stock up with those dive “goodies”, get the inside info on the dive destinations, or just mingle in amongst the rubber suits and be sociable…just don’t forget to bring the credit cards!

I’m up for it, Ray.
Advanced tickets are still available on the train (and, at £20 return, they are rather cheap). If anyone fancies coming up on the train with me, please email me. I’ll be booking my train ticket in the next few days.

Don’t forget that the Dive Show isn’t only about shopping. I went last year and spent most of the day in the various presentations, listening to Alex Mustard (photographer), Peter Scoones (cameraman who filmed a lot of Blue Planet etc. and showed lots of previews) and John Bantin and other dive journalists. Well alright, I did buy Alex Mustard’s book… But it’s worth going even without a credit card. You can spend all day there and not spend (!) and, as Ray says, just be inspired - and daunted - by all the places that there are to go diving.
(Unfortunately I have to work on the thirteenth…) So enjoy!

I have just looked on the dive show website but which does not seem to give any information on the show lectures/presentations at the moment (or timings/halls) so I have emailed them for any information they can release on this.
The lectures are indeed extremely popular by all accounts (with only standing room left only apparently) so prior advance notice would prove the bagging a worthy good sit down to rest the feet!
With over 16000 visitors to last years show, seats will be at a premium to those in the know methinks!
If anyone is planning to give the rebreathers a try out in the pool then I suggest you bring your bathers along too!
For those generally pondering a dive location/wreck site etc., (or for those coming along to the show & wishing to submit questions to the myriad of dive holiday stalls) then check out the dive locations website…its very handy to read from and research. A veritable mine of information for the diver!(See link below)

*Copy of Dive Shows quick reply:
Note:It advises tickets can be bought direct but prior to the visit to qualify for the discount, so feel free if you wish or if we are over the 8 visitor group …and all feeling lucky then I can still do the group purchase (posting tickets out).
The car park is now £8 by the way…and gets VERY busy at closing time (6pm)as does the exit roads, so bear this in mind!
*Dear Ray
Tickets are on sale now either through our website http://www.diveshows.co.uk or the ticket hotline 020 8977 9878 and the preshow price is £7.50 each. THis represents a £3.00 saving on the cost of the tickets on the door.
If you are looking to bring a group there is no group discount, however every group of 8 or more is entered into a free draw. The prize is a week long diving holiday at the 5* Movenpick resort in El Gouna and includes flights, B&B and ten boat dives, and the best bit this holiday is for 8 people. The prize has a value of over £6000. This has been arranged by the Diveshows Ltd in conjunction with Longwood Holidays.
Speakers at the show will include film maker Mike DeGruy (whose latest project will be shown on BBC over the weekends either side of the show), Fabien Cousteau, Monty Halls, John Boyle as well as wreck divers Leigh Bishop and Innes McCartney and cavers Martyn Farr and Rick Stanton. The programme and seminar programmes will be posted to the website shortly.
All best wishes

Hi to all you guys and girls going to the Dive Show. Unfortunately, I wont be going this year. However, Oonasdivers have just sent me their new brochure and we have had 2 pictures included in their gallery including one of GLUGies on last years Red Sea trip. As well as that, they have quoted yours truely and, again, GLUG get a mention. I admire OOnass for sticking their neck out in th dive industry and supporting and promoting GLUG. And with that relationship in mind, I would really appreciate it-and so would they-if some of you would swing by their stand (941)at the show and say hello. Lydia and the crew will be waiting with a bag off chocolate eclairs amongst other goodies including a draw for a dive holiday.
Have a good one and see you all soon.

Just a quick comment to say that the show proved a great visit and trip overall. The lectures were all that they promised to be and more.A bit for everyone interested in marine life, wreck and cave diving.
The visual photography for the soon to be aired BBC programmes (possibly after xmas)was stunning (as ever) as was the German wreck diving off Cherbourg on the WW2 raiding ship “Komet” (which had the most amazing good fortune throughout its lifetime before finally being sunk and recently found off the French coast).
Cave diving in New Zealand to depths of 180 metres (and recovering a previous divers body who did not return!) had me spellbound and the still shots taken of the deep caverns were awesome.
Tales of WW2 Gold bullion recovery (again in New Zealand) were something you’d expect to read in a fictional novel rather than real life.
I shall go to ALL the dive shows in future as the enthusiasm by the divers giving the talks certainly shone through!
Learned a lot about all aspects of the varied diving which can be had throughout the many dive locations in the world.
Looking forward already to the next London show now in March.(see events).Ray
