Red Sea Southern villages - any feedback?
Posted by Ads on July 25th, 2007
Hi!
The post re training at Marsa Shagra got me thinking about my next diving holidays. I may end up going to one of the 3 diving villages: Marsa Shagra, Marsa Nakari or Wadi Lahami in mid to late November. It seems you get quite a few dives per day, without the seasickness factor!
-Have you been in one of the three villages and what did you think?
-would you recommend one over the other?
-Would you want to come too? Price range = approx £650-£770 all included.
I’ll be grateful for any comments posted here.

Hi Ads. The 2 reports above, from 2005, might be of some help to you and perhaps give you an impression of what Red Sea Safari Shargra and Nakari are like. Please feel free to get back to me with any other questions.
Best wishes
Charlie
Reply to Charlie StewartThanks for pointing me in the direction of your reports. Clearly both camps look good and I still can’t make up my mind. I you had to go back to one, which would you pick?

There’s very little difference in the camps other than location and they are equi distant from the airport. Shagra is nearer Elphinestone an Nakari is nearer Dolphin House Reef. You can visit both these reefs from either camp site. I personally love Shagra’s house reefs. Please note that Abu Dabbab-Dugon bay- is now closed, giving the Dugon and turtles so much needed relieve from all the divers and snorkelers. However, it is still possible to see Dugon’s at other sites where sea grass grows.
Reply to Charlie StewartOne other thing I like about Shagra is a chill out area down by the sea called Carol’s Place. Its a Beduoin tent set up with big cushions on the ground and a constant supply of tea, wine or beer. A few quests drift down there so sit under the stars, listen to the ocean and talk about diving and everything else. Angelique, a French Oceanic Videographer, is based at Shagra, and did a very amazing Poy fire dance, the last time I was there. Others played quitars and sang-all very hippy trippy but then, why not!
Again, I hope all this helps.
