Birmingham NEC October (13th-14th)Dive ShowTrip.

Posted by Ray (the chef) on May 22nd, 2007

For those interested in coming along for the Birmingham NEC Dive Show and meal afterwards (see events) I have researched all the available hotels in and around Birmingham City centre and the Holiday Inn right by the station in the heart of the city stands out by far.
Rooms currently show at a good value £52 (for advance swift web bookings) for 2 people sharing (singles @ £44) and can be booked using the below link direct to their website:
The date for the planned stopover is the Saturday 13th October 07. to allow for sunday hangovers!

Note:Train travel up from London appears to be the best option so far and convenient as parking appears to be at a premium in the city. Checkout the National Rail website to Birmingham’s New Street Station (next to hotel).

I will research/reserve a suitable Balti Restaurant (if the vote is for a curry meal afterwards).

Regards to all and hope you’re getting back in the water! For those coming over diving for the weekend…pray for summer weather…if not bring plenty of asprins…Andy our host is stocking up for us I hear!Ray.

Thanks, Ray. I think I’ll be coming along to this.

I’ll ask at the next meeting and see whether I can find a room-mate. Shall we all try to travel up on the train together?

    Hi Jason,
Ok. Andrea and David have only registered their interest besides yourself (so far) but its still a long way off yet. I think Brian is talking about coming up to the show by car but not stopping over. I am seeing him over the weekend with the others coming down for the diving weekend so will chat with him and the others about the trip (hopefully sell it to them!)

The train fare is around £15 return I think (National Rail website only advises/offers bookings 12 weeks in advance)and with the train theres no hassle of parking etc. so good option. Parking at NEC is usually a fiver but there’s the benefit of no carting goodies back (new tanks are a bit heavy!)and Brum City is £15 overnight I understand.

Having pondered/costed MY options getting up from down here I,ve decided to opt for a direct flight to Birmingham as the Gatwick link proves quite costly and makes for a far quicker journey.I will be stopping over a few extra nights to sample the city highlights!

I have now heard back from the show organisers and they are offering advance tickets at reduced rate of £7.50 with entry to win a prize for ticket purchases of 8 or more(as before)so I can do a bulk purchase (as Neil did previously)and give the paypal option again should enough people wish to do this.

Should be a good weekend break in all and hopefully nearer the time we can get a good party crowd together. Bye for now. Regards.Ray

Thanks for the info. I’ll liaise with the London group about travelling up together (or not, as the case may be).
